Awareness Session on Organ Donation at R. J. College, Ghatkopar, Mumbai

  • On 29th January 2019, Blood donation camp was organised at R. J. College, Ghatkopar Mumbai arranged by NSS Students. MOHAN Foundation was invited for installation of informative stall and for giving awareness about the Organ Donation. The program was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Usha Mukundan and NSS programme coordinator Mrs. Geeta Joshi.

    The Information Desk was held by Dr. Jimmy Gupta at the site near blood donation camp. All the arrangements and crowd management was supported by NSS Students of the college.

    Dr. Jimmy Gupta held few frequent awareness sessions and introduced MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and philanthropy. She introduced the concept of Organ and tissue donation. She also explained the types of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She elaborated the procedure about bone donation which was new topic for the students. She also described that tissue donation (skin & eyes) can happen even at home which caught attention of the crowd and everybody started asking queries related to tissue donation which were answered promptly. She also discussed about Organ Donations that can happen in case of Brain Dead case and number of lives that can be saved by giving the examples of successful transplant stories articles and news about green corridor which was somewhat familiar to the students.

    About 50 blood donations happened in the blood donation camp and about 100 people visited the stall. Few pledges were taken by students & few were filled online. We thank Principal Dr. Usha Mukundan and NSS programme coordinator Mrs. Geeta Joshi for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
