She explained about Skin Banking in a detailed manner which includes –  dos and donts, criteria for donation, post donation testing and procedures on the skin and quality maintenance.

Many doubts were raised by the students about harvesting of the skin. Some questions were asked such as:

    1. Living person can donate their skin?
    2. What is the solution which the skins are kept?

Every question was properly explained patiently by Ms. Ami Mehta so that the participants were happy that they have learned a new topic today. Ms. Deepa who was the in charge of Blood Bank in Right Hospital offered the students a visit to the Blood bank and explained the facts on blood donation.

Dr. G. Balakrishnan, CEO and Hand and Micro surgeon, Right Hospital  urged the volunteers to take up this cause so that everyone should think seriously about skin donation. Ms. Chandini Pandian a trainee participant handed over a memento to Dr. G. Balakrishnan as token of appreciation.

The second session was at MOHAN Foundation. It began by an recall exercise by Dr Hemal Kanvinde  followed by a rethink of the plans and campaigns on organ donation. The 4 groups continued to fine tune their plans and ideas about creating awareness programs. These plans were discussed in great details by the participants.

The third session was donor family interactions. Dr. Gomathy Karmegam, Anesthesiologist - Kilpauk Medical College shared her experience about her aunt who donated her organs in 2003 because of an intracerebral hemorrhage. She also explained the scenes in an ICU where there is brain dead patient. The participants were very much interested to listen to that. Ms. Ramya, a volunteer gave a memento to Dr. Gomathy.

Mr. Simon Raj, Lecturer in the Health Sciences College of Madras Medical Mission shared his experience as his uncle donated the every organ. He was sharing the information what the normal public has in their mind in organ donation. He said that normal public thinks organs are taken by hospitals for money and not for helping anyone. He had the same experience in his family as many were against his thoughts by which he doesn’t had any support for donating his uncle’s organs. At last the organs were donated and he got a call from the transplant coordinator as the organs are safe in the body of a recipient. He felt happy on that day. Even in his village, the pastor thanked the family for the donation and asked everyone to support the family. As a token of appreciation Mr. Pathasarathy gave a memento to Mr. Simon Raj.

Dr Sree, Asst Prof. Department of Community Medicine Tagore Medical College appreciated the  words of the donor family and felt that it was good for the medical students to understand  how the public perceives organ donation.

We thank Mr. Paramasivan PRO Right Hospital, Dr Gomathy and Mr Raj for their efforts and time  for our volunteers.
