Students quiz the speaker on organ donation at DAV Public School, Velachery

  • On 23rd August 2016, MOHAN Foundation was invited by DAV Public School, Velachery to give a talk to 160 students of standard 10. MOHAN Foundation was represented by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Mr. Sivakumar and Ms. Ann Alex.

    Ms. Anita welcomed the MOHAN Foundation team to the students and explained to them the importance of sharing this message wherever they go in the future.

    The first session began with Dr. Hemal giving the students a brief idea about organ donation and MOHAN Foundation. This was followed by Ms. Ann who explained about the importance of keeping oneself healthy, what is organ donation, the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, types of death, who can donate, age factor. During the talk fun facts about the body were asked to the students.

    The students were very attentive and alert, many questions were raised. Questions such as

    • Can a recipient donate?
    • How are the organs stored?
    • Can Vocal Cords be donated?
    • Has anyone done Brain Transplantation before?
    • What happens if my family knows my wish but still does not accept?
    • Can tongue be donated?
    • How is it possible for skin to be donated?

    In the second session, students were divided into three groups where one group would do a mime explaining the myths on organ donation, another group would do posters on the myths and the third group would participate in a quiz. The topic for the mime and poster were Myths on organ donation. The students then performed their mime and displayed their posters to the audience.

    The students were then asked by the teachers to say one point they had picked up from the whole programme. It was amazing to see the interest of the teachers and students to share this cause with the people they know.  The teachers who attended the program were – Mrs. Sundari, Mrs. Anitha, Mrs. Ramya, Mrs. Sandhya and Mr. Babu

    A feedback was given by the MOHAN Foundation team to the principal of the school about the interest of the students.
