On 20th August 2106, Ms Pallavi Kumar was invited to speak at a workshop on organ donation organized by Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket. The workshop also saw the launch of “Max Organ Transplant Network” The workshop was organized by Dr Kewal Krishan, Senior Consultant, Cardiovascular Surgery, Max Hospital Saket.
The half day workshop had sessions on the need for declaration of brain death, heart transplantation and discussion of case studies on cadaveric transplant. Dr Rahul Pandit (Chairman, Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine, Mumbai) spoke on the brain stem death declaration process. A panel discussion on key challenges to increase deceased organ donation also took place. Dr Vimal Bhandari ( Director, NOTTO) was one of the panelists.
Ms Pallavi Kumar spoke on the topic of “Communication to the family” She laid down the fundamental principles and guidelines to be used while approaching a family for organ donation.
