  • On 30th September 2016, MOHAN Foundation conducted a session on Organ donation for the staff of MSD –Organon (India) Pvt. Ltd on Mount Road, Chennai.   Dr. Hemal Kanvinde represented MOHAN Foundation.  About 20 medical representatives and senior staff joined the session.

Mr. R. M. Bhasaran of the company welcomed all and spoke of the company’s “MSD Gives Back” program as a celebration of 125 years of existence.  He spoke of the importance of understanding organ donation. Dr. Hemal started with a movie on the achievements of Tamil Nadu, followed by a talk on the concepts of organ donation and ended with another educational film clip explaining brain death.

The session was more of a discussion on brain death, lack of information in hospitals, the registries for patients and the whole coordination concept.  Two of the staff shared their stories of being donor families.  This resulted in a positive atmosphere in the lecture hall.  Some spoke of the anticipated resistance they will get in their house about organ donation. The seniors then explained that some concepts have to be told by others – highly respected people of the community – and then the concept gets an acceptance.

At the end everyone picked a donor card and pledged to take this message to their families and friends.  MOHAN Foundation thanks Mr. R. M.  Bhaskaran for this initiative in his office.
