Awareness programme at Santhome Church, Chennai

  • On 14th August 2011 transplant coordinators from MOHAN Foundation visited Vicent De paul society, Santhome church, Chennai for an awareness programme on organ donation and distributed organ donor cards.

    Mr. Prakash, transplant coordinator, spoke to the members of the church about the concept of brain death, organ donation, grief counselling, myths & religious beliefs on organ donation, organ donation statistics in Tamilnadu and the importance of carrying a donor card. He also shared with them his experiences with the families of deceased organ donors in the Government General Hospital, Chennai.

    Assistant bishop of Chennai, Fr. Lawrence Pius explained to the people there was no bar to donating one’s organs in Christianity and encouraged them to think about this good cause. Finally he distributed donor cards to those who were interested. About 68 people participated in the programme. They said that they would educate their families about the importance of organ donation. They also promised to keep the momentum going and support MOHAN Foundation in this noble mission of spreading the message of organ donation.
