An Awareness talk on Organ Donation for students of Ayurveda Mannam Medical College, Panthalam

  • On 17th December, 2013 an awareness talk on organ donation was organized by PRAYANA, college union of Mannam Ayurveda Co-operative Medical College. Union members invited Mrithasanjeevani to educate the students on organ donation and its importance. The programme started with a welcome speech delivered by Archana. S. Babu, Vice Chairperson, College Union.

     

    The event was inaugurated by Mr. Sajan Surya, serial-cine Artist, his talk inspired and motivated the students and he said that his brother in law passed away five years ago due to kidney failure and he mentioned the importance of deceased donation. After his talk he handed over his “Willing to Donate” form to Mrithasanjeevani. Later, Dr. N. Rajendran, Principal, Dr. S. Jayakumar, Staff advisor, Dr. Robin. J. Thomson, Hospital Deputy Superintendent,  Mannam Ayurveda, Medical college,   all addressed the gathering.

     

    Mr. Aneesh P V, Transplant coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed to Mrithasanjeevani, Trivandrum Medical College, conducted the session on deceased organ donation. In his presentation he covered the topics:  importance of organ donation, Transplantation of Human Organ (THO) Act 1994, myths on organ donation, types of donations – live and deceased donation, difference between natural death, coma and brain death, organs that can be donated in cardiac death and drain death, eye donation and blood donation, donor card, KNOS website.

     

    Around 200 students participated in the session. After the session donor cards were distributed to all the participants. All the participants pledged their organs by signing the donor card. The programme was ended with vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Vijeeshmon K. V. General Secretary, College Union.
