Donor Memorial

  • Mrs. Uma Tomar   - 65 Years

In the words of Ms. Deepa (daughter of Mrs. Uma Tomar): "My mother, Mrs. Uma Tomar, aged 65, was a woman of unyielding kindness and generosity. A few years ago, we were inspired by the mission of the MOHAN Foundation and pledged our organs after hearing about it on 'Kaun Banega Crorepati.' Moved by my motherĂ¢â‚¬â„¢s selflessness, she immediately expressed her willingness to donate her organs.

Despite enduring immense challenges in caring for our family, my mother never received the recognition she deserved. Yet, in her final act of compassion, she chose to leave a legacy of hope and transformation.

On the early morning of January 20, 2024, Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinator at MOHAN Foundation Nagpur, answered Ms. Deepa's call on the MOHAN Foundation Helpline number and provided her with the contact details of Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director at MOHAN Foundation NCR. Ms. Kumar promptly got in touch with Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer at NCR, to coordinate the case and shared the contact details of the family, including Ms. Deepa (the deceased's daughter) and Mr. Ashwini (the deceased's son).

Ms. Simran then contacted the eye bank at Safdarjung Hospital, learning that no eye technician was available at that time, and the retrieval would take place in the morning.

Ms. Pallavi worked to expedite the process and obtained the contact details of Mr. Manoj, Transplant Coordinator at Safdarjung Hospital. She spoke to him, and he assured her that both cornea and skin retrieval would occur in the morning, personally overseeing the donation process.

True to his word, Mr. Manoj coordinated the entire process, and by 8 a.m., corneas and skin retrieval were successfully completed.

MOHAN Foundation salutes the family for their noble gesture."
