Honoring Sunetra Purushottam Datar's Final Wishes

Sunetra Purushottam Datar,72 years old, wished to donate her body to medical research, a noble act that can help improve medical treatments. To donate her body, her relatives contacted Veena Wathore, Project Manager of MOHAN Foundation, later Veena contacted the Anatomy Department of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur, which provided all of the necessary information and documentation.

During the conversation, Veena Wathore from MOHAN Foundation highlighted the significance of corneal donation to the family. She pointed out that the name 'Sunetra', which translates to 'beautiful eyes', carries a profound significance, thereby making corneal donation especially meaningful. Corneal donation involves donating the transparent front part of the eye that can restore eyesight for someone who is visually impaired. Sunetra's relatives readily agreed to donate her pair of corneas, which were donated at GMCH's eye bank on December 2, 2023.

Whole body donation could not happen due to certain reasons, Sunetra's wish to contribute to society even after her death was fulfilled through the donation of her corneas. MOHAN Foundation commends the Datar family for their compassionate decision and selfless act of kindness. Sunetra's memory will live on through the gift of sight that she has given to someone in need.
