On 18th August 2020, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Dr. A K Sen Gupta, Founder of 'My Retired Life' a Senior Citizen's Association to conduct an awareness talk for its members.
Mrs Jaya Jairam held an awareness session and introduced MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and philanthropy. She then introduced the concept of Organ and tissue donation. She also explained the types of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She also described that tissue donation (skin & eyes) can happen even at home which caught attention of the crowd. She then discussed about Organ Donations that can happen in case of Brain Dead case and number of lives that can be saved through Organ Donation.
She elaborated that there is no such age limit for donation as long as the organs and tissues are healthy they can be donated, even a newborn infant can donate. She then explained about the Indian laws pertaining to Organ Donation, the waiting list of Organ failure patients and difference between the opt-in and opt-out system. She also explained about the religious barrier and myths related to organ donation.
Lastly participants were invited to join in our volunteering program. Details of Organ donation Helpline No. 1800 103 7100 was also shared. About 50 participants attended the awareness session. Few pledges were filled online as Donor Card registering link was shared. We thank Mr A K Sen Gupta for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
