On 23rd September, 2013 a senstisation session on organ donation and transplantation was conducted by Ms. Sunitha A T, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation at the Neurology Ward, Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), Chennai.
In her talk she spoke about: who can be a donor; difference between brain death, cardiac death and coma; the organs and tissues that can be donated after brain death and about the importance of signing the donor card.
During Ms. Sunitha’s interaction with them the following queries were raised: who should be contacted in case the family is interested in eye donation, how to register for organ transplantation and who should be informed in case one is interested in organ donation.
Totally 4 nurses participated in the session and all of them pledged their organs by signing the donor card. They also requested Ms. Sunitha if she could provide them with a guidebook explaining the protocol for deceased organ donation.
