Mr. Ranjini Shankar MS received a call from Mr. Pradeep Mendonsa (President, Bharatiya Nagarika Samithi Trust) to conduct an interactive webinar on organ donation and the concept of brain death for the members of Karunya Salvation Trust and the members of Rotary Club on 12th December 2021.
Mr. Pradeep Mendonsa was impressed by the event which was conducted earlier for the Bharatiya Nagarika Samithi trust members and hence requested to conduct another session. Around 55 people had assembled at a church where a television was set up to view the session; pastor of the church and the members of the church were also in the audience.
Mrs. Ranjini, Project Manager and Mr. Marulappa L N, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation were the speakers. Mrs. Ranjini began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission and vision; the concept of organ and tissue donation; types of death - cardiac death and brain death; brain death declaration; and procedures of deceased and living organ donation. Mrs. Ranjini then elaborated on the procedure of eye, skin, and bone donation; briefly explained the role of Jeevasarthakathe; touched upon the transplant law and the importance of a donor card. Myths and facts, and barriers to organ donation were highlighted as well.
Mr. Pradeep Mendonsa and the pastor of the church expressed their wish to conduct more events in with collaboration with the Foundation.
Around 46 people were interested to pledge their organs after the talk and would later receive their donor cards through Mr. Mendonsa. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Mr. Pradeep Mendonsa for the opportunity.
