Organ Donation Awareness by Ambassador for The Social Reforms, Chiplun

  • On 17th June 2021, Mr. Shubham Lad - Organ Donation Ambassador, MOHAN Foundation conducted an online session to explain the importance of organ donation to the new recruits of the research team of The Social Reforms.

    Mr. Ravidas Kamble, In-charge - The Social Reforms, TWJ, Chiplun, introduced Mr. Shubham and MOHAN Foundation. Mr. Shubham explained the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation with the help of a simple PowerPoint presentation. The following topics were explained in detail:

    • Introduction to organ donation and transplantation
    • When and how can organs can be donated
    • Organs that can be donated after cardiac and brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • Transplant Law
    • Role of MOHAN Foundation
    • Role of NOTTO
    • Organ donation - myths and facts
    • Tissue donation
    • Organ Donor card
    • News articles of celebrities who died due to organ failure and those who donated organs
    • Celebrities who have pledged their organs

    A video on brain death by Neurosurgeon Dr Sandeep Vaishya was played for the audience. A pre-evaluation survey and a post-session quiz were conducted through Google Forms.

    Participants were interested to know the concepts of organ donation and to promote the cause. It was an interactive session with question and answers - some of them asked about the process of pledging for organ donation and what happens if the patient’s family denies to give consent even if the patient was in possession of a donor card. The audience assured that they would discuss the need and importance of organ donation with their family and friends. Around 12 people had attended the session and two signed up as organ donors.

    At the end, Mr. Kamble delivered the vote of thanks, mentioning that the session was very helpful and motivated all the participants to pledge for organ donation.
