Mass Awareness for cadets of TN13 Army Battalion of NCC at Crescent college

  • MOHAN Foundation conducted an Organ Donation awareness talk at Crescent College for the cadets in the NCC camp on May 15, 2023. Around 517 cadets from different schools and colleges belonging to TN13 Army Battalion of NCC, Tamil Nadu participated in the session. 

    Mr. Ganesh C (Marketing Coordinator) and Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H (Helpline counsellor) were the resource persons for the sessions, and Ms. Yamini M (Community Education Executive) assisted the session. Two sessions where conducted simultaneously.

    Mr. Ganesh conducted the session for boys and Ms. Arshiya conducted for girls. They started the session with an introduction of themselves and about the organisation. They spoke about the need of organs, what and when donation can happen. They explained about brain death - causes and certification process.

    They spoke about Organ donation, tissue donation and voluntary body donation. They explained the process of pledging as well as the registration processes for an organ failure patient. In between the session they conducted quiz and interacted with students.

    The Myths & Scams on Organ Donation, and the effective usage of Organs Donation Helpline 1800 103 7100 were discussed. It was an interactive session.

    After the session a short Q&A was conducted. The queries were about organ donation registration process, and voluntary body donation. Donation of organs from children was also discussed.

    Queries asked:

    1. Why is it illegal to sell organs? Government can set up registration or even set up a tax.

    2. If the person dies in Hospital can the organ be retrieved immediately and transplanted.

    3. Can an autistic person be an organ donor?

    4. In eye donation will they take the whole eyeball?

    5. Can donation be done from medico legal cases

    6. Storage of organs and tissues

    The students took part in the session actively.
