  • On 3rd February 2019, MOHAN Foundation was invited to the screening of a short film ‘Kangal Thirappayo’ based on the theme of eye donation. Ms Ishwarya Thyagarajan was at the screening on behalf on the Foundation.

The movie produced by Krishiv Productions and directed by Mr Karthickshiva L, depicts the trials and tribulations in a blind couple’s everyday life. It strongly puts forth the message of eye donation.

The cast and crew of the film who spoke during the event mentioned that their commitment to the cause of organ donation is what drove them to give their best to the film. Ms Ishwarya quoted some statistics related to eye and organ donation in the country, busted some common myths related to organ donation and encouraged the audience to have an open discussion about organ donation with their family and friends.

Around 30 people including the cast and crew and their family and friends were present at the screening. The audience remarked Ms Ishwarya’s talk was both informative and inspirational and were thankful for an opportunity to pledge their organs. Close to 15 people registered as organ donors and collected their donor cards; the rest who were keen to register, preferred to discuss with their families before doing so.

The director stated that he was motivated to make this film, his second one, following a volunteering stint at a blind school in Madurai. He also added that associating with organisations such as MOHAN Foundation will help in spreading awareness effectively through various channels. In his concluding remarks he promised to continue making such socially conscious films and urged the others to do so as well.

The event came to a close with felicitation of Ms Ishwarya and the film crew and distribution of sweets. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Mr Karthickshiva for the invitation.

‘Kangal Thirappayo’ would soon be available on YouTube for public to watch.
