MOHAN Foundation in association with PGIMS, Rohtak, SOTTO Haryana conducts CME on Organ Donation at College of Nursing, Rohtak, Haryana

  • On September 24, 2021, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session was organised by MOHAN Foundation in association with PGIMS Rohtak, SOTTO (State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization) Haryana. The session was held for the students and staff of College of Nursing, Rohtak, Haryana. The session was conducted by Dr. Sanaa Bhadwal, Project Leader, MOHAN Foundation.

     

    The session was organised after a discussion with Professor Sunita Singh, Principal, College of Nursing, who upon recognizing the importance of the subject urged students and staff to take part in the session. The session was initiated by Dr. Sanaa with a brief introduction about MOHAN Foundation, SOTTO and the purpose of the session.

     

    In the session concepts of organ donation (living & deceased) and brain death were explained, the need for organ donation in India was also greatly stressed upon. The students also participated in the discussion regarding organ donation in circulatory death and in cases of brain death. The role of the nursing students as members of the medical fraternity in promoting and highlighting the need for organ donation was discussed. The participants were also made aware of the efforts currently underway to establish a deceased organ donation programme at PGIMS.

    • Why do we need organ donation?
    • Laws governing organ donation
    • Who can donate organs?
    • Contraindications to organ donation
    • When and how does organ donation take place
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
    • Eye donation
    • Brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • Organ donation Myths and Facts
    • What is the role of students / members of the medical fraternity?

     

    The session ended with the distribution of Information pamphlets on organ donation among the participants, they were also encouraged to initiate dialogue among fellow students, family about organ donation. The participants were advised to contact Dr. Sanaa and Ms. Deepti at the SOTTO office at PGIMS in case of any further clarifications on the subject and guidance on the process of signing up to be an organ donor.

     

    Professor Sunita Singh, Principal, College of Nursing thanked Dr. Sanaa for the session and closed the session by urging students to come forward and contribute to the noble cause of Organ Donation.  Professor Sunita along with the staff and students took the pledge to become organ donors and formally register themselves as an organ donor with SOTTO.

     

    Around 85 participants including staff and students attended the session and 400 organ donor pledge forms were distributed in the college on the request of Professor Sunita Singh.
