MOHAN Foundation conducts organ donation seminar at Faculty of Nursing, Sri Ramachandra Medical University and Research Institute, Chennai

  • On 1st March 2018, 150 students and staff of Faculty of Nursing, Sri Ramachandra Medical University and Research Institute, Chennai were given a series of lectures on the topic of organ donation.  This was conducted by MOHAN Foundation. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Mr. Ruban Victor and Ms. Sukanya Ramar of MOHAN Foundation conducted the seminar from 11 am to noon.

    The Principal Prof. Dr. S. J. Nalini welcomed the guests and spoke on the importance of the topic.  She requested MOHAN Foundation to take over the seminar. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde gave the first talk on the Concepts of Organ Donation. She touched upon the need for organs, types of death, brain death, certification, counselling and types of donation. She also spoke of the Legal aspects and the organ allocation criteria.

    Following this, an educational film on Brain Death was shown. Later Mr. Ruban Victor explained the process of deceased organ donation, the departments and staff involved in a successful donation and transplantation. This was done through a game.  It was very interesting for the participants to be a part of such an experience. He explained the importance of a nurse in early identification of a brain death case.

    27 students pledged their organs at the end of the seminar. The seminar ended with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Manjula, from the department of Community Nursing.
