MOHAN Foundation conducts awareness session on Organ Donation and inquest procedure for railway police officers of Chennai division

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited by the Superintendent of Police, Railway Police Chennai division Dr. Vijay Kumar to speak to his officers about their role in Organ Donation. The session was a part of their  monthly  meeting on 13th  November 2015 at their office in Egmore.  Around 50 officers of the level of sub inspectors, inspectors and DSPs attended the talk. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde was deputed to speak on behalf of MOHAN Foundation.

    SP Dr Vijay Kumar welcomed MOHAN Foundation and said that on an average there are 8 fatal accidents or deaths daily on the railway track of Tamil Nadu. Though they may not be brain deaths, he wanted his officers to understand their role in case of an inquest for an organ donation case.

    Dr. Hemal spoke about the concepts of organ donation and brain death, she touched upon the laws and orders and regulation regarding organ donation. She gave detailed information on the TN Government Order that spells out steps in case of multi organ donation.  The talk was followed by screening of a motivational film.

    The discussion was based on testing for brain death, organ allocation, the need for post mortem after accident and the utility of a helpline.

    40 officers picked a donor card and all were given an information pamphlets.
