MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on Organ Donation at New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Sansad Marg, New Delhi

  • On December 14, 2022, MOHAN Foundation (MF) conducted an awareness session for the officials from different departments of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), New Delhi. The session was conducted at the NDMC Convention Center, New Delhi. Mr. Amit Yadav, Chairman, NDMC, was approached by Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MF, NCR, about receiving permission for an art installation at a public place in Central Delhi representing all the organ donors in the country. During the meeting, Ms. Pallavi also got permission to organize an OD session for the NDMC officials. Twenty officials from each department of the NDMC attended the session. Ms. Simran coordinated with Mr. Dinesh Kumar Agarwal, Deputy Director, Event Management, NDMC Convention Centre for organizing the session.

     

    Ms. Pallavi was the resource person, and she was accompanied by Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, Program Manager and Ms. Simran Anand, Program Officer, MF, NCR.

     

    The programme began with Mr. D. Kartikeyan, Director, Event Management, NDMC Convention Centre, welcoming Mr. Satish Upadhyay, Vice Chairman, NDMC and MF representatives. Mr. Kishan Kumar, Director, Enforcement, North NDMC, then felicitated Ms. Kumar with a plant. Mr. Upadhyay then addressed the participants. He appreciated the initiative taken by the department to organize the talk on organ donation, an important and relevant subject in today’s times.

     

    Pallavi began the session by asking the participants about their understanding of the subject of organ donation. Many of them shared their experiences regarding the same. Two short movies were shown to the participants. One was of a heart recipient, and the other was of a donor family. She then explained the concept of organ donation with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. The term "brain death" was explained with the help of a short informative film. She also shed light on "consent" related to organ donation, legal death, and the various steps involved in a brain death declaration.

    • Organ donation Myths and Facts

     

    The following points were discussed elaborately during the talk:

    • How to manage a low-cost transplant?
    • How does a recipient survive after a transplant?
    • Is there any government hospital that performs transplants?

     

    The participants were motivated to support the cause of organ donation. Close to 250 participants from 30 departments attended the talk.
