On 16th September, 2013 an awareness talk on organ donation was organised by the Rotary Club of Gurgaon during their weekly meeting held at Hotel League, Sector 14, Gurgaon. Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR along with Ms. Seema Yadav, Transplant Coordinator, Medanta – The Medicity conducted the awareness session. The talk was enabled by Dr. Neha Arora, Cardiology PGDCC Trainee, Medanta - The Medicity.
The presentation explained in detail issues related to organ donation and brain death. One of the members present was a donor himself. He had donated a kidney to his brother. He shared his personal experience of how his family was desperate to ensure his brother underwent transplantation and also spoke about the ordeal of fulfilling the procedures to get permission to be a donor.
Two of the members were doctors and a very intense discussion followed about brain death and how hospitals maintain patients on ventilators.
23 members of the club attended the talk. All of them took the donor cards and some even took cards for their spouses. Altogether 27 donor cards were distributed.
