On 5th November 2018, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by Dr. Ameya Divekar, Doctor of the Nisargopchar Ashram, Urli Kanchan, Pune to conduct an awareness talk on Organ Donation for all the patients who had come for treatment there.
Mrs. Jigisha Yadav began her talk by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission, objectives and history. She then asked them what came to their minds when they thought of organ donation. Comments were very positive.
Then Mrs. Jigisha Yadav started the session explaining the importance of organs and also explained what will happen if they stop functioning one has to replace them with functional organs otherwise the person may die. The concept of Organ Donation was explained via the example of Blood donation. Also the procedure was explained about Organ donation, retrieval & transplantation.
The concepts relating to organ donation were explained - types of death, types of organs that can be donated after brain death and tissues donation after cardiac death, difference between brain death and coma, etc. She also discussed the various myths and facts for organ donation. Lastly an inspirational 2‑minute video was shown.
Around 50-60 students attended the talk session. We thanks to Mrs. Dr.Ameya Divekar and the Ms. Dr. Abhishek Divekar, Director of Nisargopchar Ashram thereby supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
