Awareness session on Organ donation and transplantation at Select City walk, Saket, New Delhi

  • On May 07, 2014 an awareness session on organ donation and transplantation was conducted by MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR in association with Organ Receiving and Giving Awareness Network (ORGAN) India - an initiative by the Parashar Foundation at the corporate office of Select Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd, Select City Walk Mall, Saket, New Delhi.

     

    The preliminary talks to organize the session happened between Ms Sunayana Arora, ORGAN India and Ms Iva Sharma, Manager-HR, Select Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.

     

    Select City walk is a premier shopping mall located in the Saket District Centre, Saket, New Delhi and is spread over 6 acres. It opened to the public in October 2007 and is the first large scale shopping mall to open in South Delhi.

     

    The session was taken by Dr. Muneet Sahi, Senior Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation and was a very interactive and informative one. It covered topics like organ donation and the need for it, the concept of brain death, difference between coma and brain death, various tests confirming brain death, apnoea test, legal aspects related to organ donation, myths and the hurdles faced in the area of organ donation. The examples given by Dr. Sahi were very simple and easy to understand. She also spoke of the role MOHAN Foundation in the field of organ donation.

     

    The attendees listened attentively and appreciated the way the talk was conducted. There was also constant participation from all those present. At the end, important helpline numbers related to organ donation were shared with all.

     

    There was a brief question-answer session at the end of the talk followed by distribution of the donor cards. Out of the 19 attendees, 6 of them pledged their organs.
