Awareness session on Organ Donation for staff of Cloudnine Hospital, Chennai

  • MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness talk on Organ Donation for the staff of Cloudnine Hospital in Chennai. The audience  of 24 people comprised of staff from front desk, nurses, a doctor, physiotherapists, HR division, nutritionists and housekeeping. The session was held on Nov 30, 2022  in their meeting room. Dr hemal Kanvinde conducted the proceedings. 

     

    The session began with a video depicting the value of a Gift of Life and was followed by a talk on Concepts of Organ Donation.  Dr Hemal explained the work of MOHAN Foundation and continued with making the audience understand the need for  Organ Donation. She spoke of who can become donors and which organs can be donated. She asked them about the myths in society about organ donation.   She then elaborated upon brain death and the process in hospital regarding request for donation and process of organ allocation. At the end she explained how to register as a donor and take a donor card. 

     

    A quiz was conducted to show the audience the role of films in creating awareness at the same time misconstruing  facts to create distrust in society about organ donation. 

     

    Discussion  after the session was on: how does one register to get a cadaver donation, why is family consent essential, do families readily agree to donation in the hospital, how does MOHAN Foundation help a donor family? 

     

    Organ pledges were taken by 20 of the staff. This was the second session in the hospital and MOHAN Foundation thanks the management for supporting the cause.
