Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna, Goa

Updated on Wednesday, June 14, 2023
  • On June 8, 2023, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador of the MOHAN Foundation, spoke to eighth- to tenth-grade students at Regina Martyrum High School about organ donation.

Mr. Gabriel began by showing the students a video on brain stem death. He also shared his journey with the students as to why he became an ambassador for the cause of organ donation. It was only when his sister-in-law was diagnosed with renal failure and needed a life-saving organ that he felt compelled to educate the people of Goa about organ donation.

The students listened attentively to the lecture. Mr. Gabriel explained why organ donation is necessary. He told the students to take back the message of organ donation and share it with their near and dear ones as they are agents of change and can make an impactful difference.

With the help of a PowerPoint presentation, concepts like circulatory and brain stem death, organ and tissue donation, allocation of organs, green corridor and donor card were explained. The different ways one can become a donor or sign up for organ donation were also discussed, like scanning the QR code on the Foundation’s website or ticking the box ‘yes’ to organ donation when applying for a driving license.

Close to 180 students attended the talk. FAQs on organ donation were also distributed.

Mr. Gabriel thanked the Headmistress, Mrs. Miriam Afonso, teachers, staff, and the students for inviting MOHAN Foundation to deliver the talk on organ donation.
