Mrs. Sheetal Mundada, Transplant Coordinator at MOHAN Foundation, coordinated with Dr. Nerli, Chairman of the Multi-organ Transplant Unit of KLE Hospital, Belagavi to conduct an awareness session at the hospital. The session was held in the Anubhav Mantap area of the hospital on 13th August 2021, the Organ Donation Day. Around 100 people including the staff of the hospital, members of a few NGOs and Self-help groups attended the session.
The program began with an inaugural address by Dr. M V Jali (Medical Director of KLE Hospital Belgaum), who spoke about the transplant programme of the KLE Hospital and the efforts and initiatives being taken to make it successful.
Dr. Nerli, then explained the concept of organ and tissue donation, discussed in detail brain death declaration and the procedure of deceased and living organ donation. He briefly spoke about the work of MOHAN Foundation and Jeevasarthakathe. A motivational video was the concluding feature of his talk.
The last speaker for the event was Dr. Rajesh Powar, who elaborated on skin banking and skin donation.
Mrs. Sheetal Mundada then spoke about MOHAN Foundation’s activities, mission and vision, the procedure of eye and organ donation, explained the role of Jeevasarthakathe and delivered the final vote of thanks.
95 people from the audience signed up as organ donors and received their donor cards. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to the KLE Hospital for the opportunity.
