Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Girija Welfare Association, Nare, Panvel

  • On 12thNovember 2023, MOHAN Foundation conducted organ donation awareness programme at Girija Welfare Association, Nare, Panvel.

     The programme which began around 10.30 am lasted for more than one hour, and was attended by around 17 people.

    Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation explained about organ donation and why is it required in the country. Various organs that can be donated, types of donors, types of death, viability of organs after retrieval were topics discussed. She explained the difference between brain death and cardiac death, elaborated on the Transplantation of Human Organs Act and discussed the myths and misconceptions related to organ donation. She also briefed about skin donation, eye donation and Body donation.

    Some key points that were explained in the session are as follows:

    • Brain stem death and its causes
    • Types of organ donors
    • Organs and tissues that can be donated
    • Importance of the donor card, the helpline number and the website of MOHAN Foundation

    A few participants asked about the process to register to pledge to be an organ donor and the organ donation process in hospitals. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Mrs. Sunanda Saplin Director of Girija Welfare Association for giving us the opportunity.
