A talk on Organ Donation in at VS Hospital

• MOHAN Foundation was invited for an awareness program in VS Hospitals, Kilpauk at 2pm on 30^th August 2017. Mr. Siva Shankar represented MOHAN Foundation. The program started with issuing the ribbons for the nurses and administrative staff.

  Mr. Siva Shankar started with a talk on the Concepts of Organ Donation. He discussed the core facts of Organ donation like:

  1. Who, Why, When of Organ Donation
  2. Brain Death
  3. Age Criteria in Organ Donation
  4. What is Brain Death and its causes
  5. Importance for DONOR CARD
  6. Information sources and Helpline Number

  There were 20 participants for the program and the talk went on for 40 minutes. There were so many doubts after the session which went on for 15 minutes. The questions that were asked:

  1. What is the need of taking the DONOR Card if the consent is not given after the death by the family members?
  2. What is the role of the Hospital for Organ Donation?
  3. If the there is an unclaimed body in hospital in Brain death situation and the organs are in good condition, will organs be donated?
  4. What does a Hospital do when there is a Brain Death patient?

  The answers were given by Mr. Siva Shankar properly so that all doubts were cleared. MOHAN Foundation thanks Mr. Karthik - Unit Head of VS Hospital, Kilpauk for organizing this program.
