A national sensitization workshop conducted on Organ Donation for employees of State Bank of India of Amravati circle

  • On January 13th, 2022, SBI Foundation, the CSR arm of State Bank of India organized a webinar ‘FROM DUST TO LIFE’ – an awareness workshop on Organ Donation, for the staff members of the SBI’s Amravati Circle. This webinar is part of Project Gift Hope, Gift Life that aims at enhancing organ donation in India, initiated by MOHAN Foundation and supported by SBI Foundation.

    Ms. Jaya Jairam from MOHAN Foundation was the speaker of this session. Ms. Juhi Ranjan of SBI Foundation moderated the webinar and welcomed the speaker and audience.

    Ms. Manjula Kalyanasundaram, CEO and Managing Director of SBI Foundation began the session by welcoming the dignitaries and employees of SBI Amravati circle and MOHAN Foundation team.

    Ms. Jaya Jairam introduced herself and MOHAN Foundation. She explained the concept ‘FROM DUST TO LIFE’

    She then discussed the below topics about organ donation briefly

    1.    What comes to your mind when you think of organ donation?

    2.    Why donate organs? - The gap between need and availability of organs in India.

    3.    An inspirational video of a testimonial by a heart recipient who expressed gratitude to the donor family was played.

    4.    Who can donate?

    • Living  donor
    • Deceased donor   

    5.     What organs can be donated in-

    • Natural death and
    • Brain death

    6. Eye and skin donation and how it can be done even at home

    7. Organ donation scenario in India as compared to rest of the world

    8. Myths Vs. Facts about organ donation

    9. How THOA has classified related and unrelated donors

    10. Stringent law against illegal organ donation.

    Video clipping of Chairman of SBI- Mr. Dinesh Khara’s motivational speech on enhancing organ donation in India was played and a demo of how SBI employees can take pledge through SBI’s own HRMS portal, was shown to the participants.

    Lastly, Ms. Jaya Jairam shared her own life experience of being how the act of kidney donation saved her life.

    Questions asked by the participants were as follows:

    • How to take pledge?
    • Can I donate my organs to my near ones, when required?
    • How did Punith Rajkumar (actor) donate his corneas to 4 people?

     

    Mr. Lalit Mohan – COO (SBI Foundation) thanked Ms. Jaya Jairam, Ms. Manjula Kalyanasundaram and everyone who attended the session.
