MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an awareness session on organ donation at Adhya Designs, Faridabad on November 7, 2017. It was coordinated by Ms. Neelima Rao, designer at Adhya. Adhya is about craft and design that focuses on an alternative to the machine manufactured object, and gives traditional crafts a new direction while creating product relevant to a contemporary home.
Ms. Mareena Thomas, Programme Officer, MF Delhi-NCR conducted the session. Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi accompanied her. This talk was a result of one of the initiatives taken by Mr. Pushpinder Singh who is motivated about the cause, post the session at his organization, Honda Cars.
Mareena started the session by asking few questions on organ donation just to know about their awareness regarding organ donation and the concept of brain death. She talked about the organ donation rates and the types of donation. As the session went further, transplantation act and brain death was explained in detail. A 5-minute video on brain death was shown when the concept of brain death was being addressed. The concept of eye donation was given special mention and how each of us could contribute towards the cause. In the end, myths related to organ donation were clarified.
A very intense discussion followed the presentation and numerous queries were raised. Questions were asked on brain death, within what time can different organs be donated, whom to be contacted and within how many hours of death. Post the session, Mr. Mukesh Tyagi, in charge of sales and marketing, shared his thought about continuing to be a blood donor inspite of few bad incidence that had shook his belief in the system.
Close to 20 employees attended the session and an equal number of cards were picked up.
