Organ Donation Awareness at Sweekar Association, Nagpur

  • Sweekar Association of Parents of Mentally Retarded, Autistic, C.P. and Multiple Disabled Children invited MOHAN Foundation to deliver an awareness talk on organ donation. The session was at the Association premises at Kasturba Bhawan, Nagpur on 29th September 2018. Smt. Chitra M. Kamath, President and Dr. Mrunalini Ballal, Treasurer of Sweekar were present at the session and welcomed Dr. Ravi Wankhede.

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede gave an insight about the subject in a comprehensive manner. He stressed the importance of organ donation, both live and deceased donations. He explained the concept of brain death following which organ donation could happen to save the lives of about eight people. He explained through a PowerPoint presentation, the need for organ donation, religious misconceptions and other aspects around it. Around 32 members attended the session and 2 of them signed consent forms and collected donor cards. After the talk Dr. Wankhede interacted with the participants who had the following queries:

    • After natural death what is the time duration for eye donation?
    • What is body donation processes?
    • What is brain death? 

    Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinator was present and helped distribute the pamphlets. He also guided the participants to sign pledge forms and distributed organ donor cards.
