Law School Students Learn about Deceased Organ Donation and its legal aspects.

  • An awareness session on organ donation was organized by Government Law College, Trivandrum on 27th October, 2014 for the fresher’s. The awareness programme was held at College auditorium.

     

    The Government Law College, Trivandrum is one of the prestigious law institutions in India established in Kerala in 1875, having a track record of more than 135 years of excellence. Since its inception, the college has imparted high standards of legal education.

     

    The Programme was inaugurated by Dr A S Sarojam, Principal, Government Law College. Presidential address was delivered by Ms Bindhu, Associate professor and NSS Coordinator. After that Ms Saranya S, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed in KNOS, Chief Guest delivered a talk on organ donation. More than 300 members were present at the talk held in the college auditorium. The session began at 2 pm and started off with Ms Saranya explaining about KNOS and its functions. She also explained about the Objective of KNOS, Transplantation Human Organ act- 1994 and its amendments, Activities of KNOS, how  KNOS maintains patient registry,  allocation of each organs, organs which can be donated after brain death and cardiac death, importance of carrying  donor card.

     

    The students asked questions about eye donation, what are the procedures for live organ donation, is live organ donation safe for donors? What is “heart- in- a- box”? There were 250 students participated and all of them pledged for organ donation by signing the donor cards. At the end of the session, Mr Krishnakumar, Coordinator NSS unit formally thanked the team for conducting the session.
