Celebrating Independence Day by pledging for Organ Donation

  • On 15th August 2012, as a part of Independence Day celebrations, Kency Flat Association, Virugambakkam invited MOHAN Foundation for an awareness talk on Organ Donation for the residents.

    A short film "UYIR KODU" was screened before the talk for the residents. Mr. Vijay, Transplant coordinator, then explained the concept of brain death, age and other criteria for organ donation, the need for organ donation and transplantation.

     

    The residents raised lot of questions at the end of the presentation:

     

    1.     Will the transplant coordinator approach the family for organ donation or can the family broach the subject?

    2.     What is the significance of the “Donor card”?

    3.     At what age can an individual become a registered Organ Donor?

    4.     Will the recipient details be disclosed to the donor family?

    5.     How long will the organ donation procedure take?

     

    Mrs.Geetha, kidney recipient, who received a kidney from her husband shared her experience - before and after a transplant. She also sensitized the residents on live donation and also stressed the importance of organ donation in our country.

     

    Mr. Sunil, Secretary of Kency Flat Association thanked MOHAN Foundation and encouraged the residents to pick up the Donor Card. Nearly 115 residents participated in the presentation and 100 pledged for organ donation.
