  On 26th April 2023, organ donation awareness talk was moderated by Mr. Jagdish Borude, transplant coordinator, MOHAN Foundation at Government Observation Home, Dongari, Mumbai. Mr Jagdish and and staff from JJ Hospital, Dr Chhaya Rajguru, Mr Shrikant Kekan and Mr Vishnu Gaikwad were invited to deliver a lecture on "organ donation" at Observation Home, Dongari, Mumbai. The talk was organized with the help of Mr Rahul Kanthikar, Superintendent. The aim of this talk was to inform Juveniles and Staff of observation Home about organ donation and to provide information regarding the importance of organ donation.

  Mr Shrikant Kekan, social service superintendent, introduced Mr. Jagdish and MOHAN Foundation and its role in organ donation and its activities. Mr Jagdish then elaborated organ and body donation.

  He then discussed the following topics on organ and body donation:

  1. Concept of organ donation and tissue donation
  2. Concept and definition of Brain death
  3. Types of death- Brain death and cardiac death
  4. Organs and tissues donated after brain death and circulatory death
  5. Why organ donation is important in India?
  6. How one can save the lives of 8 people
  7. Body donation and it's importance.

  Participants asked following questions at the end of the session:

  • Can organs be donated after post mortem and in MLC case?
  • What is the upper age criteria for organ donation?
  • What is the retrieval time of each organ for organ donation?
  • Can chronic alcoholic patient is suitable for organ donation?

  The motive of the session was to spread awareness and sensitize them about organ and body donation. There were approximately 100 people attended the organ donation awareness talk. At the end of talk, Mr Rahul Kanthikar had given vote of thanks to Mr Jagdish Borude and JJ Hospital team.
