Organ Donation Awareness by Ambassador Vijayshri

  • On July 10th 2021 at 7 pm, Ambassador Ms. Vijayshri  organised and conducted an awareness session on organ donation. She had invited her family and friends as audience, who were from different backgrounds and different ages - school principal, college lecturer, lawyer, health professionals, engineers, psychologist, businessmen, college students and homemakers. A few of them based in the USA and Saudi Arabia also attended the session. In total 67 people attended the session. 

    The session started with an introduction about MOHAN FOUNDATION by Helpline Executive Mr. T. S. Siva Shankar. He spoke of the various activities of the Foundation and its vision and mission. Ms. Vijayshri, then explained the concepts of organ donation with the help of a presentation. She covered the need for organ donation, who can donate, and what can be donated. She differentiated between brain death and coma and explained the Transplant Law. The process to register to become an organ donor was also explained.

    Following her presentation, questions related to the below were raised by the people:

    • Can diabetic patients donate their organs?
    • Voluntary whole body donation
    • How can kidney be donated while living and the health of donor after donation
    • Does anyone get priority in the waiting list?
    • In eye donation, which is the part that is retrieved? Can the retrieved corneas be used in transplantation of 2 different people?
    • Is the cost of living donor transplants high in private hospitals?
    • How to create awareness and in what ways does MOHAN FOUNDATION do it?
    • Is there any website to know about the transplant waiting list?
    • Is there any timing for organs to be donated?
    • How is the body maintained after whole body donation?

    Ms. Vijayshri and Mr. Siva Shankar answered the questions. Ms. Vijayshri felt very proud about creating awareness for this noble cause and looks forward to doing more of it in the future.
