Nagpur Police Celebrates 25 years of the Transplant Law

  • The Nagpur City Police organized an organ donation awareness talk on 10th July, 2019 on the occasion of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act completing its 25th year. Mr. Gajanan S. Rajmane, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Nagpur invited MOHAN Foundation Nagpur to deliver a talk on organ donation and transplantation at the Police Gymkhana, in Civil Lines, Nagpur.

    Dr. Vibhawari Dani, President - Zonal Transplant Coordination Center (Former Dean of Government Medical College), Mr. Gajanan S. Rajmane, Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Director of MOHAN Foundation & Secretary of ZTCC, Ms. Veena Wathore Transplant Coordinator of ZTCC Nagpur and other eminent police officers were present.

    Dr. Vibhawari Dani spoke briefly about organ donation following which Dr. Ravi Wankhede spoke about MOHAN Foundation and the legal and ethical aspects of organ donation as well.

    Dr. Wankhede gave information on the following subjects:

    • Why is the law important in organ donation?
    • The Transplant Law
    • Green corridor
    • Time factor in organ donation and transplantation
    • The role of police in organ donation
    • Circulatory death and Brain stem death
    • Whom to contact for organ donation?
    • Using MOHAN Foundation’s website and help line number

    The following were a few questions asked by participants

    • Whom to contact for organ donation?
    • What is the time duration for a liver transplant?
    • Where is the MOHAN Foundation office in Nagpur?

    Mr. Gajanan S. Rajmane thanked MOHAN Foundation for participating in the event. Around 90 police officers were present during the occasion and all of them signed consent forms and received their donor cards.
