  • On 28th August, 2016, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mr. Vivek Patil, a member of the mission, to conduct an awareness session on Organ Donation for its members belonging to the Sewri branch at Sewri Koliwada Municipal School. The members of the mission felicitated Mrs. Jaya Jairam and thanked us for agreeing to conduct the session.

Mrs. Jaya Jairam began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and its activities. This session was in Hindi. She explained what Organ Donation entailed and then talked about Organ Transplants. She highlighted the need for viable organs and India’s current Organ Donation rate. She went on to explain how brain stem death differs from cardiac death and what the certification procedures involved. The cultural and religious barriers and myths related to organ donation were also discussed in detail. They were then shown a three minute video on the importance of Organ Donation as a Gift of Life. She also spoke about how she was blessed to get the Gift of Life herself and thus was driven to associate with the noble cause.

The Members were given information brochures and were told to discuss the same with their relatives. Subsequently, around 40 of them have pledged their organs, which was very heart-warming to us.

We wish to convey our sincerest thanks to Mr. Vivek Patil and the entire Sewri team for extending a strong support to the cause, in good numbers.
