MOHAN Foundation Invited to conduct an awareness session on Organ Donation at Cloudnine Hospital, Noida

  • On November 22, 2022, MOHAN Foundation (MF) was invited to conduct an awareness session on organ donation for the employees of Cloudnine Hospital (CH), Noida. Ms. Sonali Joshi, HR, CH had reached out to Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer, MF, via email for conducting an awareness session on organ donation for CH Noida employees. Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer and Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, Programme Manager, MF, NCR, were the resource persons.

     

    Ms. Simran began the session by asking participant’s understanding about organ donation. She then explained the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. The following topics were explained in detail: 

    • Organ donation and its need in the society
    • When and how does organ donation take place
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
    • Transplant waiting list in India
    • Brain death
    • Causes of brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • Role of MOHAN Foundation
    • Contraindications to organ donation
    • Myths and facts about organ donation
    • Eye donation

     

    Dr. Muneet explained the declaration process of brain death in detail with the help of a few examples. Participants shared their experiences with organ donation, which they had in different hospitals. The audience was informed about the process of signing up to be an organ donor as well as the importance of family dialogue regarding organ donation.

     

    Over all the session was very interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and asked many queries. To name a few:

    • What if a person's personal information is leaked while they are pledging for organ donation? 
    • When a patient is declared brain dead, can the ventilator be turned off? 
    • Organs can be donated if a person dies on the spot after an accident?

     

    Close to 16 participants attended the session.
