Awareness session on organ donation at North Delhi Nursing Home, Delhi

  • On 6th September, 2013 the North Delhi Nursing Home, Ashok Vihar, Delhi organized a session to raise awareness on organ donation among the doctors of North Delhi and also among the paramedical staff in their organisation.


    Dr. S. P. Gupta, owner of North Delhi Nursing Home; conducts monthly meetings with many practicing general physicians, radiologists and doctors from neighbouring clinics to discuss the most unique cases of the month and also utilizes that time to familiarize the group with an issue that has social relevance.


    Dr. Gupta approached MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR to help organise an awareness talk and a seminar for the group. Dr Muneet Sahi, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR conducted the session. A total of 22 doctors from different specialisations attended the talk. Dr. Sahi addressed the following issues: the need and importance of organ donation, the concept of brain death, how to detect brain death, contraindications to organ donation and the relevance of a central registry.


    There was also a detailed discussion on whole body donation and a representative from “Dadichi Deh Daan Samiti" facilitated the discussion.


    The presentation was also attended by the nursing home staff, ward boys and nurses who also came forward and took the donor card. A few patients also signed up. Many of them took cards for their family members as well.


    More than 28 members attended the session and totally 38 cards were taken.
