Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Akhil Bhartiya Mahila Parishad Santacruz, West Branch, Mumbai

  • On 13th March 2019, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mrs Nalini Shah for giving awareness about the Organ Donation on the occasion Women’s Day Celebration at Akhil Bhartiya Mahila Parishad Santacruz West Branch, Mumbai.

    Dr. Jimmy Gupta held an awareness session and introduced MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and philanthropy. She introduced the concept of Organ and tissue donation. She also explained the types of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She elaborated the procedure about bone donation which was new topic for the public. She also described that tissue donation (skin & eyes) can happen even at home which caught attention of the crowd. She then discussed about Organ Donations that can happen in case of Brain Dead case and number of lives that can be saved by giving the examples of successful transplant stories articles and news about green corridor which was somewhat familiar to the gathering. She also explained about the religious barrier and myths related to organ donation.

    Dr Jimmy lastly showed few heart touching videos about organ donation to the gathering so they can empathize the power of organ donation. Lot of questions were asked about Whole Body Donation & Tissue donation which were explained in detail.  About 30 women attended the awareness session. Few pledges were filled online.

    Akhil Bhartiya Mahila Parishad Mumbai is affiliated to MBCC (Mumbai) and to AIWC - All INDIA Women’s Conference (Delhi). Annually they do many programs which are helpful to students, downtrodden people, women and betterment of society at large. We thank Mrs Nalini Shah (Secretary) and Mrs Priti Pancholi (President) for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
