  • On October 29, 2015, Saroj Super Speciality Hospital, Rohini invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct a talk on organ donation during its monthly CME (Continuing Medical Education) held in the hospital’s basement OPD.  A CME is held on the last Friday of every month for the doctors to come together and discuss interesting and difficult cases or some external faculty comes and gives a talk.

Dr. Muneet started the session by applauding the efforts taken by the hospital management in implementing the deceased organ donation protocols (recently the hospital got its brain death committee approved) and the much needed public sensitization on organ donation in the form of IEC material in and around the hospital.

The talk mainly focused on the role of doctors especially neurosurgeons/neurologists and critical care specialists in the identification and maintenance of a potential brain dead donor and the required request. She also stressed on the fact that the initial counseling about brain death by the treating physician is very important since the relatives have already formed a relationship with the treating team during the daily updates given to them about the patient’s condition.

She also suggested that all the doctors should be actively promoting eye donation and shared with them the contraindications of cornea donation so that at an individual level they could rule out the contraindicating factors before calling the eye technician for retrieval of corneas.

Many doctors found the awareness session to be very refreshing and something new they got to learn apart from normal technical knowledge. One doctor also enquired about the numbers to contact if someone wishes to pledge for organ or eye donation.

The CME came to an end with Dr. P.K. Bhardwaj (Medical Director) felicitating Dr. Muneet with a bouquet of flowers. A total of 47 doctors attended the talk.
