The desperate shortage of organ donors in Scotland has become an important matter of concern for the Health secretary, Nicola Sturgeon.

She said she was "increasingly sympathetic" to introducing Britain's first system of presumed consent for organ donation.

Scotland has one of the lowest organ donation rates in Europe. An all-hopeful and determined Sturgeon plans to tackle down this issue  soon. A hike in the number of organ donors is expected to rise by 50 % over the next five years.

The Scottish government is also planning to drive a campaign to increase the number of people signing up for donation.

Miss Sturgeon said: "Despite the fact that 29% of the population now have their names on the Organ Donor Register, Scotland's donation rate is still one of the lowest in the EU.

"The shortage of donor organs for transplantation is an increasingly acute problem and we are determined to tackle this.’’

She also said that she wants to see Scotland on the top among European organ donor league.
