  • Chennai-based Mohan Foundation to train 55 individuals to make organ donation easier

    State organ transplant body Jeevasarthakathe has sought the support of Chennai-based Mohan Foundation, which will be training 55 individuals to become transplant coordinators, in Victoria Hospital campus from Monday to Friday. While Jeevasarthakathe has only five transplant coordinators, each of the 52 hospitals, that act as a transplant centre, has only one coordinator.

      Pramod Mahajan a 67-year-old farmer who is an organ donor, reached the city on the second day of his 100-day motorcycle tour across the country to spread awareness about organ donation. Mahajan, who hails from Sangli, began his tour from Pune on Sunday and plans to cover at least 10,000 km across the country. If all goes well, he would like to put 15,000 km behind him.

        67-year-old farmer, Pramod Mahajan, has started a 100-day motorcycle tour across the country to spread awareness about organ donation. He began his tour on October 21. Himself an organ donor, Mahajan plans to cover at least 10,000 km across the country. Through his journey, he wants to tell people that donating organ does not have any ill-effects on body.

          In a rare instance in Mumbai last month, the organs of a 59-year-old brain-dead patient, that were harvested and transplanted, failed in all the three recipients. One of them, a 32-year-old being treated for renal failure, died within 48 hours while the recipient of the other kidney, a 60-year-old, died within a fortnight. The recipient of the liver, a 73-year-old woman, had to undergo a second transplant operation soon after.
