Sensitisation talk at RGGGH, Chennai

  • A sensitization programme was organized at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), Chennai on 31st July, 2013. It was organized for the lab technicians. The main objective of the programme was to seek support from them when an organ donation takes place.

     

    Ms. Sunitha A T and Mr. Ananth R, Transplant Coordinators, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai conducted the session. Ms.Sunitha A T focused on the concept and importance of organ donation. During the session the following topics were discussed: What is organ donation, who can be an organ donor, what is Brain Death, different between Brain Death and Coma, about Cornea Donation and what is a donor card.

     

    Mr. Ananth enumerated the vital role the lab technicians play in the process of organ donation and requested them to give the ABG values as soon as possible before and after apnoea in order for the procedure to be completed without any delay.

     

    Few of the queries asked were: why the hospital management is not showing interest to develop the laboratory by buying advanced equipments and what is the success rate of organ transplants in Tamilnadu.

     

    There were 28 participants at the event and all of them pledged their organs by signing the donor card.
