  • Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL) as part of their Organ Donor Sign-up Drive has been conducting awareness sessions on organ donation across all its offices in Delhi-NCR region. A session was organised at JLL, Noida on July 30, 2013.

Dr. Muneet Sahi, MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR conducted the session. She spoke to the employees about MOHAN Foundation and the work they do to promote deceased organ donation in the country. She also informed the group about the ongoing Times Of India (TOI) initiative, "I Lead India, I will be the change"; also that August 6, 2013 has been marked as Organ Donation Day.

To ascertain the level of awareness of the group; the floor was opened for comments and for sharing personal experiences if any, relating to organ donation. Many people expressed a sense of fear and also spoke about the prejudices that were ingrained in them which prevented them from picking up the donor card and pledging their organs. One of the attendees shared her personal experience with the group. Her husband very recently donated his liver to her father. She recalled the trauma that the family went through looking for a donor even going to the extent of swap donation with a Pakistani family which did not work out in the end. However, she said that both her father and husband are doing well now. This sharing of a personal experience by one of their own colleagues had a huge impact on the rest of the audience.

The presentation by Dr. Muneet Sahi depicted various concepts of organ donation, difference between brain death and cardiac death, about organ transplantation, about eye donation, contraindications to organ donation, myths that abound organ donation and about the law that governs organ donation and transplantation (Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994). The group listened very attentively and contributed their views even as the presentation was underway.

A total of 38 people attended the session and around 30 donor cards were distributed.
