Organ Donation in Social Workers Perspective

  • Ms. Saranya, a social work student invited MOHAN Foundation to deliver a talk on organ donation to her peer group. This session was organized as part of their curriculum requirement at Madras School of Social Work, Egmore on 12th March 2013 at 10.00 am. 20 final year students from Department of Integrated Social Work were present for the session.

     

    Ms. Veena from MOHAN Foundation made a presentation and screened videos on concepts of organ donation. She discussed about the activities of MOHAN Foundation, concepts of death, organ and tissue donation and importance of donor card. Ms. Veena mentioned about the role of transplant coordinators in the transplant field, stressed about the importance of transplant coordinators training programme and placement guidance organized by MOHAN Foundation. Dr. K. Sathyamurthi, Assistant Professor, discussed about the role of social workers in the health field. He asked students to take up challenging roles in this field to make a change in the society. At the end of the session 18 students pledged to donate their organs by picking up a donor card.
