On 20th November, 2013 an awareness talk on organ donation was organized by Altimetrik India Pvt. Ltd, Taramani, Chennai. Ms. Geetu of Altimetrik India invited MOHAN Foundation to deliver a talk on Organ Donation to educate their employees.
The programme started with an employee sharing a few incidents which made him to be an Organ Donor. He mentioned that the first incident which made him to think about Organ Donation was one of his family member who donated his corneas and second one was Hithendran incident and subsequent donation. This personal talk made the group more enthusiastic.
This was followed by a talk by Ms. Kavitha, Marketing Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai. During her presentation, she explained the following topics : What is organ donation, importance of organ donation, types of donation, brain death, coma and natural death, procedures included in brain death donation, religious myths on organ donation, TNOS registry, statics of Tamil Nadu donor, importance of donor card. It was an interactive session,
The group raised many question like:
Are organs given free of cost?
How authentic is the TNOS registration?
My friend needs a transplant will MOHAN Foundation help in finding a donor?
Is the Donor Card universally accepted?
Whom to be contacted during emergency?
The queries were answered. A kidney recipient speech was screened to the employees to make them understand the value of a donation to a organ failure patient. All employees who attended the workshop signed up as donors by picking up a Donor Card.
