Budding engineering of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering take a pledge to donate organs

  • On 27th February 2015, Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Sriperumbedur conducted an awareness programme for their students on Organ Donation. This was an initiative of Mr. Ganeshan, student of Venkateshwara College, who approached Cadaver Transplant Programme to give an awareness talk on Organ Donation.  He on his own has been speaking about organ donation to his classmates and then decided that he should address the whole  student body of his college.

     

    Mr. Prakash. K, Transplant Coordinator and Ms. Kavitha. S, Marketing Coordinator was deputed from MOHAN Foundation to address the gathering.  The programme began with a welcome address by Prof. R. Parthiban, Principal, Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and he explained the importance of event and the noble cause. Following that the coordinators were felicitated and they started with Concepts of Organ Donation. There were 3 sessions.

     

    The following topics were covered in their talk:

    • Activities of MOHAN Foundation across the country to strengthen the Deceased Organ Donation programme
    • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
    • Difference between Brain death and Coma
    • Donor card  & Importance of the consent from the family
    • Tissues and organs  that can be donated
    • Information sources -Helpline Number and websites

     

    Totally1000 students participated in the programme, in that 900 students signed as the organ donors.
