Awareness session on organ donation, IIT, Roorkee

  • On February 7, 2015, MOHAN Foundation conducted a talk on Organ Donation at IIT Roorkee, Uttarakhand for their annual festival, "Sankalp 2015."

     

    SANKALP is an annual social convention, an initiative of NSS, IIT, Roorkee to bring the intellectual minds across the country into a confluence of ideas, to analyse the social problems in the nation and find a technical solution. It aims to weave together imagination and engineering to generate novel ideas and designs for various social issues bridging humanities and engineering aspects of the problems, as expressed by their theme,"Bridging Barriers:Educate, Evolve, Empower."

     

    In keeping with the stimulating theme, the student body decided to hold a drive on organ donation. Mr. Rajat Saini (Student Coordinator) on behalf of NSS, Roorkee invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct a session on organ donation and Ms. Pallavi Kumar and Ms. Chaitanya Jonker from the foundation's side conducted the session.

     

    Ms. Pallavi Kumar explained the concepts of organ donation and transplantation primarily focusing on the types of donations, how to diagnose brain death, tissue donation, the Transplant Law of India and statistics on the said subject. A short film on brain death was shown. The session was an interaction-based.

     

    66 people attended the session, which included student as well as the faculty members and 32 took donor cards at the end of the session.
