Walkathon Towards The cause Of Organ Donation & Transplantation.

• In an effort to show how transplant patients can live active lives,to honour donors and donor families and to encourage organ donation,the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB)Hospital is sponsoring a walkathon.
  The event is slated for March 4,2006, saturday to raise money to help send, 75 organ transplant recipients,living organ donors and members of donor families to the U.S. Transplant Games,to be held June 16-21 in Louisville,Ky. More than 5,000 patients identify UAB as their transplant center.
  Team Alabama had one of the largest groups of participants from any state in the United states,at the 2004 Transplant Games in Minnesota. That team, which included children and adults, brought home 28 medals.The transplant games are held every two years and are sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation.
