Sensitization of ICU Nurses

  • Nurses are the back bone of the health services provided by a hospital. They play a vital role in patient care.  Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai has contributed significantly to the Deceased Organ Donation Programme.

     

    The Transplant Coordinator’s of MOHAN Foundation have initiated an ongoing sensitization for the nurses of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. This awareness was held for the nurses of Medical ICU on 20th February 2013.

     

    Ms. Kavitha, Transplant Coordinator explained the nurses on the following topics

     

    1. Concepts on Organ Donation
    2. Difference between Coma and Brain Death
    3. Organs can be donated
    4. Eye Donation
    5. Brain Death certification
    6. Donor maintenance
    7. Importance of Donor Card
    8. Information on Helpline 1800 4193737

     

    The transplant coordinator requested the nurses to help them to increase the number of eye donation at the hospital, since an average of 10 to 20 deaths per day were reported. The eye bank contact number was also given. Nearly 13 attended the session and all pledged to become organ donors.
